Staff Selection Commission (SSC) – CGL & CHSL Examinations
The Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) and SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) examinations to recruit candidates for various Group B and Group C posts in Central Government ministries, departments, and offices. SSC CGL is designed for graduate-level candidates and recruits for posts such as Income Tax Inspector, Assistant Section Officer, Auditor, Central Excise Inspector, CBI Sub-Inspector, and Accountant, while SSC CHSL is conducted for 12th-pass candidates for positions like Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Data Entry Operator (DEO), Postal Assistant, and Junior Secretariat Assistant. Both exams are conducted in multiple tiers including computer-based objective examinations followed by descriptive papers, typing tests, skill tests, or document verification depending on the post.
The syllabus mainly includes Quantitative Aptitude, General Intelligence & Reasoning, English Language, General Awareness, Current Affairs, Mathematics, and basic Computer Knowledge. SSC CGL generally has a higher difficulty level compared to CHSL, especially in mathematics and analytical reasoning. The exams follow a negative marking system, making accuracy and time management extremely important. Final merit is prepared based on marks obtained in various tiers along with post preferences and category-wise cut-offs. Aspirants preparing for SSC exams should focus on speed-building, shortcut techniques, mock tests, previous year papers, vocabulary improvement, current affairs preparation, sectional practice, and regular revision to improve performance in high-competition environments.
